Resume: What do IT recruiters want to read?

A well-structured and comprehensive resume enhances your chances of securing an interview in IT. But what should you mention, and most importantly, how? The IT recruitment experts at ITI Staffing invite you to follow these tips.

Aim for clarity

Your resume should be organized in such a way that an IT recruiter can quickly and clearly find the desired information. Avoid long paragraphs and opt for a dynamic, visual, clear, and clean layout.

No matter your career path, a resume should fit on two pages and contain the following sections, in this order.

  • Personal Information
Your name, professional title, and contact details.
  • Summary of Your IT Career
Highlight in a few lines why your application should catch the attention of recruiters.
  • Professional Experiences and Projects
If space allows, list your major achievements in each role, for example:

    • Optimization of the performance of an application used by 10,000 users
    • Management of a team of 5 IT technicians
  • Technical skills
Insert keywords that match the job offer (as long as you genuinely possess these skills, of course).
  • Human Skills
Mention the qualities that set you apart from your colleagues and superiors.
  • Personal or volunteer implications
If you have nothing to mention here, do not search too far, at the risk of diluting the rest of your application.

Prioritize your technical skills

For IT positions, you need to highlight the tools and technologies you master that allow you to stand out or meet the criteria of the job posting.

  • Technical skills and solutions: Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, and HPE Aruba
  • Certifications: Certified Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer Associate
  • Programming languages: Java, Python, HTML

If your skills have been utilized in a specific sector related to the position, be sure to mention it as well.

Check your spelling

To earn points (or rather to avoid losing them), proofread your document or have it reviewed by someone you trust. With all the powerful spell checkers available now, there is no reason to leave errors in your resume.

Good luck with your endeavors!
